This photo is taken of an Irish man who has left Ireland, he has moved to a house in camden and I think this man works in the manual labour trade because of the way he dresses and look of him. This photo hides the identity of the man by the use of the green hat and the ginger beard. these are the colours of the irish flag. The ginger colours also match with the brick in the background. The clothes are also worn out and look like its all he has to wear. I think this photo has been framed very well as it is eye level and the background of the bricks are horizontal to the photo. The photo has also been framed so there is very little negative space. so you focus on the man and his clothes. The photo is very powerful as you cant see the man's facial expression and it doesn't show anything about him, it like the man wants to keep to himself beacuse he is ashamed of himself and not happy of where he is in life. I think this photo has portrayed the people of Arlington house very well as it portrays there personality within the photo.

This is a photo of another man who lives in Arlington house, he is portrayed as a drunk who gets in bar fights. He is shown with a broken arm and he has some stitches on his forehead. This photo has been framed by having the subject slightly higher up then the photographer so it gives the subject more status and power. There is slightly more negative space in this photo so you can see the sling and this photo is slightly less formal as he is not facing the camera directly he is to the side so he is less corruptive, more aggressive and less willing to have a photo taken of him.

Sebastião Salgado: Genesis
These are a few photo's from exhibition Genesis by sebastiao Salgado. I thought the photos where very good and very well framed and he made every photo look fantastic. I think the black and white give the photo a lot of power because the blacks and whites are really strong and stand out. His work is fantastic and really shows the beauty of our world. The photo above shows a elephant walking through the sahara. It is pushed to the back of the frame while the dark and high contrast trees and bush are brought forward. This shows how nature works together and how they are all connected.

documentary photography
These are some photos I have taken on my school sports day, I think some of them are very good as the framing shows the hole scene and how the audience is acting towards the separate events. I like the use of black and white as it gives the photo more tone and it gives the photo more power and potential. Some of the photos have a high contrast to give the blacks a strong punch while the whites are shinning and stunning to the eye. I think some of the photos really capture the emotions that are taking place.
Tim Walker
This is one of Tim Walkers photograph's it is of a model leaning against a red wall which matches her dress that she is taking off and revealing her body to the audience. This red colour of the wall and her dress clashes with the navy blue of the floor as they are complimentary colours. The red rose on the floor also emphasises this. I think this photo is very well framed and thought out I like how the audience has to think of a story to put the woman in as you don't get much information in the photo. The lighting of the photo is to the left of the frame and it casts a shadow onto the right side of the photo, the lighting also causes her body

This photo is of a women in white hiding from a small army of english men. There shadow is sharp and shows the guns and the strength of the army against this women. She is posing away from the audience as to hide something like a weapon or object that the army is looking for. The colour of the photo is not very harsh and it does not stand out very strong. The object that i'm drawn to in this photo is the door that both sides are using for cover and protection against each other. The door acts as a border that the army have crossed over and are trying to take over the new land or this women who may symbolise a country or people that are being taken over in the period this photo was taken. The lighting in this photo is very calming which clashes with the scene of the photo. It is very yellow and sunny which gives a warming and uplifting effect to the audience. The lighting is only to the left of the photo which casts a shadow onto the right hand of the photo.

This photo shows a woman standing on a mountain in metal armour, it shows her a soldier, the smoke coming from the bottom left of the photo creates a spooky feeling and increases the feeling of danger. The photo has been framed so she stand on the right vertical line of the rule of thirds quadrat. This photo is very strange as men are usually the people who wear suits of armour and rescue the women, e.g. damsel in distress. However this photo could show how women and men are equal as a women in standing strong in the suit of armour.

Miles Aldridge
This was one of the photos on display at Miles Aldridge exhibition I liked this photo as it had very little information unlike the other photos which had a clear message and story. I liked this photo as the audience has to use there imagination to create the story of what she is saying or doing. The photos have very little colours, mostly creamy and the colours are not very vibrant. The photo consists of two photo like a timeline which the woman is acting normal and then the other photo is of the women looking shocked. I like the framing of the photo as it only shows the woman's face and only up to her shoulders.

Story photography homework
This is a story of a young boy who finds and mysterious SD card and it remains a mystery what is on the card. I think the lighting in this set of photos is really good and it gives the greens a vibrant and beautiful look. I think the use of zooming in and giving context to the photo gives the user a sense of what the photos are about. I think they could be improved if the colour scheme was the same thought out the photos.

Street photography - "Working The Streets"
The theme for my leaflet is going to be street photography, it is mainly going to be older street photography as I find there photo more interesting as the street contain more "life". I am going to use Vivian Maier's, Don McCullin and William Klein for my leaflet. I choose Vivian Maier because she has a wonderful selection of photos that really show what life was like at the time, she manages to capture the emotions and feeling of the people she shoots. I choose Don Mcullin because he has documented many events and has a wide range of photos. William Klein is very much like Vivian as he is a wonderful street photographer who really manages to capture the scene within his photos.
Vivian Maier's
Vivian Dorothea Maier was a American street photographer, she was born is New York and photographed the streets of such places as New York and Chicago between the 1950's to the 1960's. She was a amateur photographer and taught herself how to use her medium format camera, the Rolleiflex TLR. This camera takes 120 mm film which is a square negative unlike a more traditional film camera which uses 35 mm film.
Vivian set out to document the world that surrounded her, she took photos of things and people that interested her. |

Sebastiao Salgado, Genesis - Natural History Museum
The leaflet is very clear and easy to read, it starts off giving a very detailed introduction to the exhibition on why they are holding it and it gives a little bit of information on Sebastiao Salgado. This gives the audience some information on what they are going to see. There are several photos in the leaflet which gives the audience something to remind them what they saw when they get home, this also allows them to share what they have seen and influence others to come and see it. There is also a photo of Sebastiao so they know what the photographer looks like. The leaflet also has a map on the back so they know the layout of the exhibition. In conclusion this is a very good leaflet as it is simple and to the point, I would like to see more pictures and more information on the photographer and his work. |
